Italian Inspired Toasted Sandwich

Italian-Inspired Toasted Sandwich: A Perfect Blend of Bold Flavors

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of ciabatta or Italian bread
  • 3-4 slices of salami or prosciutto
  • 2-3 slices of fresh mozzarella
  • 1-2 slices of tomato
  • 3-4 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon pesto (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Pinch of salt and black pepper
  • Optional: balsamic glaze for drizzling

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    Spread the pesto evenly on one side of each bread slice.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • On one slice of bread (pesto side up), layer the salami or prosciutto.
    • Add the fresh mozzarella slices on top.
    • Place the tomato slices over the cheese, and season them lightly with a pinch of salt and pepper.
    • Add the fresh basil leaves for an aromatic touch.
    • Top with the second slice of bread, pesto side down.
  3. Toast the Sandwich:
    • Heat a grill pan or sandwich press over medium heat.
    • Brush the outer sides of the bread with olive oil to help create a crispy, golden crust.
    • Place the sandwich in the pan or press and toast for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden and the mozzarella has melted.
    • If using a sandwich press, cook until evenly toasted and cheese is gooey.
  4. Serve:
    • Remove the sandwich from the pan and let it cool slightly before slicing in half.
    • Optionally, drizzle with balsamic glaze for an extra Italian flair.
