Ingredients:
- 2 slices of ciabatta or Italian bread
- 3-4 slices of salami or prosciutto
- 2-3 slices of fresh mozzarella
- 1-2 slices of tomato
- 3-4 fresh basil leaves
- 1 tablespoon pesto (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- Pinch of salt and black pepper
- Optional: balsamic glaze for drizzling
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread:
Spread the pesto evenly on one side of each bread slice. - Assemble the Sandwich:
- On one slice of bread (pesto side up), layer the salami or prosciutto.
- Add the fresh mozzarella slices on top.
- Place the tomato slices over the cheese, and season them lightly with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Add the fresh basil leaves for an aromatic touch.
- Top with the second slice of bread, pesto side down.
- Toast the Sandwich:
- Heat a grill pan or sandwich press over medium heat.
- Brush the outer sides of the bread with olive oil to help create a crispy, golden crust.
- Place the sandwich in the pan or press and toast for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden and the mozzarella has melted.
- If using a sandwich press, cook until evenly toasted and cheese is gooey.
