The name doesn’t lie! Our nod to the famous St. Louis dessert starts with a vanilla butter cake base topped with a gooey cream cheese layer that’s too good to resist. Waiting for these to cool completely before cutting them into pieces is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do—they smell amazing right out of the oven—but take one bite and you’ll know they’re worth the wait. (Tip: for just the right amount of “gooey,” make sure to use a 9×9-inch pan and not an 8×8.)
1 package of yellow cake mix
1 stick of butter
8 oz. softened cream cheese
1 box of powdered sugar (16 oz.)
Heat oven to 350° F. Butter or spray 9×13 inch glass dish.
Combine cake mix, one egg, and butter in large bowl. Blend together and press into the bottom of dish.
Combine cream cheese, two eggs, and powdered sugar. Blend with hand mixer until creamy and thick.
Pour mixture over cake layer.
Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden.
Once cooled off place in the refrigerator to firm. (These taste much better cold!)
